

I have probably taken hundreds of photos of the signposts at trail junctions over the years. Back in the pre-GPS days, it was always a pleasure to come to a trail sign … confirming your location and reassuring you that you are still on your intended route (usually).
These days, on familiar hikes, the trail signs are like old friends … marking the passage of miles. In the Olympic National Park, one learns to ignore the decimal point in the mileage. Stated distances seem to only be a rough approximation.
