In mid-October 2017, I day-hiked up the North Fork Skokomish to enjoy the fall colors. After hiking up the valley and taking photos for a couple hours, I turned back and crossed the Staircase Rapids bridge to return on the other side of the river.
Just before the bridge back to the trailhead, there is a Big Leaf Maple with a lot of moss, that was showing a lot of color. I was really struck by the way the colors were emphasized by the backlighting from the sun.
