Mountain Goats

Twin Fawns, Elwha Valley, Olympic National Park by Allan J Jones
Mountain Goat Mom and kid, High Divide Trail, Olympic National Park

We were hiking around the High Divide in Olympic National Park and had camped in Seven Lakes Basin and took a day trip down to Hoh Lake. On the way back up to Bogachiel Pass, I came around a rock outcrop and found myself face to face with a black bear. We were both startled… but he moved downhill and out of sight much faster than I could get my camera ready.

On the way down to the side trail to Seven Lakes Basin, we came face to face with a family group of mountain goats standing in the trail. We were a little nervous, but I wasn’t as concerned as I was with the bear… and I was able to get a number of photos.
