Manzanar Relocation Center

While primarily visiting Death Valley National Park, I stopped in to visit the Manzanar War Relocation Center. Manzanar was one of the ten concentration camps that the US government set up for Japanese-American citizens during World War II’s racial hysteria.

There aren’t many of the original building left, and I expect that these are not the original fence posts or barbed wire. It’s a lonely harsh environment. I can hardly imagine the shock it must have been for those citizens that were torn away from their homes and farms … and then be transported to such a barren location.

I fully recommend stopping and touring the visitor center. It is deeply moving.
