The Bear Gulch Fire #1

Bear Gulch Fire – Day 1-1

For the next few days I will be posting shots of the North Fork Skokomish area of the Olympic National Park near Staircase. Regular readers may recognize the area from many of my previous posts and remember that I have hiked this favorite area dozens of times. I am posting these now because everything they show has been burnt in the Bear Gulch fire in the last week or two.

I’m in mourning.

  1. It’s always so devastating to watch a favorite place burn. I hope rain heads your way soon and is able to help put the fire out.

    1. We had some rain on Wednesday and Thursday … not enough to put it out, but it slowed it down

  2. Hi Allan, I feel your pain.

Every year, for the last 3 years, I have driven the Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper. It is stunnng. Every year I am blown away by how truly spectacular it is.

Last summer Jasper burned, and the fire went down the Icefields Parkway, burning the valleys and up the mountains on both sides before burning one third of the town.

As I’m sure aware, seeing it on the news, but standing amidst the wreckage, as I did this spring, is something quite different.

    It was heartbreaking.💔

    1. Thanks, Vicki. Yes, there are a lot of beautiful places going up in smoke. It’s very sad.
