Fall is the time for Amanita Muscaria. I knew someone who ate them for their pyschoactive properties… but it is classified as poisonous. Cooking reduces its toxicity, but also reduces the pyschoactive nature. Better to stick with a nice glass of wine.

  1. Saw a surprising number of these this year on late-summer hikes above Paradise on the Mountain. Ironic, isn’t it, that this colorful but potentially deadly mushroom is the one shown often in children’s books? As for adults, there certainly are safer mushrooms for a psilocybin high.
