Mare’s Tail Cloud

Mare’s Tail Cloud

Mare’s Tail (Cirrus uncinus) clouds are fairly common and are usually formed as warm, dry air rises. They can sometimes be an indicator of a cold front moving into the area … but when you see one isolated cloud, they don’t provide any forecasting power. When I saw this one, I was in the middle of the Olympic National Park and a long ways from any trailhead. We were very pleased when the next few days stayed sunny and dry.
