Lake Chelan is fjord-like. It is about 50 miles long (over 81 km) and averages 1.3 miles (2 km) wide. At the upper (north) end the lake lies between mountain ridges that soar up 6600 feet (2000 m). There is a boat that runs from the town of Chelan at the southern end to Stehekin at the north end. It makes a lovely day trip with stops at 25 Mile and Lucerne on the way.

That South Shore is a lovely view, Allan.
Thank you, Jo
I love Lake Chelan, although I’ve never taken the boat, we hiked to Stahekin as a practice hike before going down the Colorado River in Grand Canyon.
Great photos, Allan. Reminds me of the time you and I took that boat ride more than 50 years ago to begin our (failed) hike across the Cascades from east to west. However, I thought the hills were greener back then. Is the first photo from the west side of the lake looking east? That would sort of explain the dry hills.
Yes, that shot is from the west side looking east.
Dramatic difference.
I don’t consider it a failed hike, though.
Wasn’t what we planned, but we lived through it.
And it was an adventure
Stunning! That second photo and reflections are so beautiful.
Thanks, Egidio. I was lucky that day… it is often quite windy there.
