Great Spangled Fritillary

Great Spangled Fritillary 1

I saw this butterfly landing on yarrow up at Camp Handy while out backpacking in the Olympic National Forest. Was glad it stayed around long enough for a photo or two. (confession: I had to look up the identification in a book on my return home)

Nice to have an occasional butterfly along the trail. Even nicer when they stay put long enough that you can get your exposure set.

It took a while to wait for this butterfly to land where its wings were open facing me. I figured it was a little camera shy.
