Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington has a lot of old gun emplacements that are open. They can make for some interesting abstract images.

Sometimes mistakes are interesting.
During a hike of the High Divide (one of the highlights of the Olympic National Park), we camped along the ridge. The view across the Hoh River valley to Mt Olympus was dramatic.
On return, I used the photo for the basis of an art pen image which I then took a photo of to print as a greeting card.
During the process of printing a test card, I put a sheet of photo paper wrong side up in the printer. As a result, the ink ran all over the place. However, the image that resulted had an interesting impressionistic feel to it. Once the ink (eventually) dried, I scanned it.

The photo:

This was a series of 9 photos that I took and stitched together in Photoshop using the panorama import option in Lightroom. I then increased the contrast until the background sky was totally burnt out and the tree was totally black. At that point I had to remove some of the foreground clutter (grass, background, etc). Then copied and resized to get three on one 24×72 inch image canvas. Printed at this size, the image is quite dramatic.
For the time being, I am using the single image as my logo.

This is an early version of the Mt Ellinor image on this other page.
I had this image matted and framed … and then discovered that the image wasn’t square. This was quite distressing… and I did the second version partly because of this fact. On consideration, however, I find that the angle provides a sense of movement.

The High Divide trail along the ridge between the Sol Duc and Hoh rivers is one of the most scenic and heavily travelled in the Olympic National Park. When the weather is clear, the view across the Hoh to Mt Olympus is stunning. The Hoh Valley is prime rain forest, however, so the weather is rarely clear except in mid-summer.
I took the photo that this colored ink drawing was based on in August 2006. It was 2014 when I used the photo to make this image.
