These are more of the “lost iPhone images” from my road trip in April 2021. The image above is with the wide angle lens. Revisiting the memories of that trip makes me think of doing another. But then I think of the increased cost of gas and I think that my road trip whim may be just that.
But who knows?
I enjoy watching clouds, and there is much to be said for clouds in the desert areas. And that is besides giving some (temporary) relief from the sun when one drifts over. Maybe it has to do with the wide open vistas or maybe their lack of rain threat. Regardless, I was going through my photos doing some organization (?) and found that I had taken some iPhone photos on a trip last year that I had never imported into Lightroom. More forgotten delights! These two are a couple of those.
Capitol Lake is a man-made lake in Olympia, Washington, designed to reflect the state capitol building on the hillside to the left of this image. I used to frequently walk around the lake and watch nature and people. I was always amazed at the number of people that would be walking and totally oblivious to the incredible skies and cloudscapes.
These are more shots from when I lived in Olympia and had an apartment with a west facing deck.
The Hoh Lake Trail runs from the Hoh River Trail (the primary access to those climbing Mt Olympus) up past Hoh Lake and on to connect with the High Divide loop at Bogachiel Pass (Olympic National Park). We were camped in Seven Lakes Basin and took a day trip down to Hoh Lake. This was the trail near the top. I was concerned about the clouds … often an indication that the weather is changing … but it stayed clear for the rest of our hike.
On the return hike, I was rounding a rock spur and found myself about 6 feet from a black bear. We were both startled … I’m not sure who was more surprised. But the bear had quicker reflexes and was off the trail and down in the brush and trees before I could even think about raising my camera.
