I like the way that Lupine catches the dew and/or raindrops in the center of its leaves.

Trail Views (Color and Black & White)
Just looking through my old hiking images and found a couple of shots that I took while taking a water break. The top one shows a lush area that gets plenty of water and the bottom shows a much drier area showing rhododendron growing in deep woods in a relatively dry area.
Salal
This salal is growing in a state park in Port Townsend. As such, it is protected from “collecting”. Unfortunately the salal that is one of the most common understory plants in the Pacific Northwest is also highly prized as an accent plant in floral arrangements. Illegal harvesting on public lands has severely reduced its extent.
Blowing in the Wind
This pampas grass caught my attention with the wind blowing it around. While I wouldn’t call it colorful, it is a nice wintertime change from all the bare limbs and dead plants.
Salal
I was walking in the park and saw this patch of salal. It caught my eye with its rich green color. It’s a very common ground cover and it usually doesn’t get noticed much. But when everything else is in its winter colors, it made a welcome splash of GREEN!
