Tulips — past optimum display

Tulips — past optimum display

My sister brought me these … they were from her yard. They were quite nice and I enjoyed them right up through taking this photo. By the next day, they were really sad and they went the way of such.

This was a 5 image focus stack … (5 images with different focus points combined). That keeps the different parts of the image all staying in full focus. It allows the use of wider f/stops, which keeps diffraction from being an issue … which can happen with (for instance) an f/stop of f/16.

Calypso Orchids

One of my favorite springtime wildflowers is the calypso orchid. It is fairly common in the woods in Washington State. The group below, mixed in with yellow stream violets, is at the Bloedel Nature Reserve on Bainbridge Island … I have never seen such a large grouping in the wild.

Happy St David’s Day

Daffodils for St David’s Day

Or as the Welsh would put it: Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!

March 1st is St David’s Day. St David is the Welsh patron saint but just hasn’t attracted the attention that St Patrick has. Maybe because the Welsh tend to gather for singing and reading poetry instead of drinking green beer. (although the green beer is rumored to be an American addition)

Our family used to gather for St David’s Day to eat Welsh Cakes and celebrate our Welsh heritage. Daffodils were always present. One of the national symbols of Wales. Sometimes there would be original poetry shared … always some Dylan Thomas.
