The patterns on these doors is pretty amazing. I wonder if any of it is a result of covering graffiti, or if it is all just the graffiti of age.

These trees show the effects of being exposed to a lot of high winds on Point Wilson at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. The sun was going down and warmed up the colors just wonderfully. The image made me think of something you might see in SE Asia.

Both images are taken from Fort Worden St Park in Port Townsend. The first image is of the WA State Ferry Kennewick on it’s way to Port Townsend from Coupeville. It’s a great boat ride…. especially when the weather is clear and you can see the Cascades in one direction and the Olympics in the other.

This is the USS Robert Johnson with Mt Baker in the background. The discontinuity between the natural and the industrial/military attracted me to taking this image. I don’t usually take photos of military vessals … don’t want to be accused of being a spy!
Just a note: The ship was named after a young black marine who was serving in Viet Nam when a grenade landed in his unit’s foxhole. He through himself on the grenade, saving the lives of the others in his unit.

The abandoned gun emplacements at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA are a great location for finding interesting artifacts. I really liked the moss that was growing around this one retaining ring (not the correct military term, I’m sure). It was interesting partly because of a whole wall full of these rings, this was the only one with a patch of moss around it. Must be some difference in the makeup of the cement in that location.

Walking around downtown Port Townsend, I passed this small walkway dozens of times before noticing it. It’s pretty amazing, really. Not many windows on those walls…
