The Elbow of the Columbia

The Columbia River at Lincoln, WA

I had friends drive me up to the bluff behind their house in town of Lincoln, WA (just right of center, on the river). The Columbia River takes a hard left and heads north to Canada just on the east side of town. I used a digital camera on this, but didn’t have a wide angle lens with me, so took a series and then pieced them together for the pano using Lightroom. I added contrast which emphasized the clouds … they weren’t quite so dramatic in “real life”.

These are a couple of sky images that I took a while back. Both were taken from Olympia. The one above was pretty dramatic and I was stunned by the way no one else seemed to notice or pay attention.

It all depends on which way you look…

Looking NE towards Mt Baker

I thought these photos were all interesting … even without the fact that they were all taken from about the same spot. (not on the same day) They are all taken from Marrowstone Island, which is just southeast of Port Townsend, WA. The body of water is Puget Sound. I like the variation in mood between these. I especially like the stormy weather shot just below that has the grass blowing into a blur.

I should add that these are all shot on film. The black and white on Tri-X and the color on Portra 400. The black and whites were shot using a Nikon F100 and the color using a Nikon F75.

Another Misty Ridge

Regular readers will have noted that I often have images of misty mountain ridges. And yes, I really like the mystery of watching clouds move through the forested ridges that are so common in the Olympic Mountains. So, I hope you enjoy this one, it’s a nice one that shows the misty mood pretty well.
