Mt Baker

Mt Baker from Dungeness Spit

These are both taken with telephoto lenses, so you get some of the foreshortening effect. The top image is from Dungeness Spit near Sequim, Washington. You can walk 8 miles along the spit out to the lighthouse there. You need to be aware of the tides, though, or you may end up walking on the driftwood … a lot more difficult going than walking the beach. The Point Wilson lighthouse is on the grounds of Fort Worden State Park, right at the point where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets Puget Sound.

Views from the New Jetty

Cormorants basking in the sun

The jetty at the entrance to the Point Wilson marina was recently replaced and offers some interesting views. The marina was closed for months while the jetty was replaced and any boat that was left in the marina was unable to leave for the duration. As a result, there are a number of empty slips now … although I expect they will be filled up by summer.

Weathering

Weathering 1

These were both taken at the Point Wilson LIghthouse at Fort Worden, Port Townsend, WA. The maintenance of the facility is volunteer and the salt air and exposure to all weather takes a toll on the buildings. I hope they can find a way to keep up the maintenance better than what they have now.

I liked the grasses in the image below.

Views at the Marina (620 film)

Marina View 1

These photos were taken with a “new camera”: a Kodak Brownie Flash Six-20 that a friend gave to me. The camera was made from 1940 to 1954 and it was his mother’s first camera. The Six-20 part of the name reflects the film used. 620 film is currently available as a handrolled option. The 620 film spool is a slightly different size than the more standard 120… but it is close enough to the right size to allow the film to be unwound from a roll of 120 and wound onto a 620 spool (in the dark, of course). Thankfully, there are companies that will do that for you these days. This was Kodak Portra 400.

Shown are views of the Point Wilson Marina in Port Townsend. It is currently under renovation-construction with some dredging and additional work to replace some of the infrastructure. There’s usually lots of boats … so sorta strange to see it empty.

Points of Port Townsend

Point Wilson Lighthouse

The top image is the Point Wilson Lighthouse at Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. The angle makes it look less like a point. The main body of Puget Sound (Admiralty Inlet) is just on the other side of the lighthouse. The hillside in the distance is on Whidbey Island.

Point Hudson from Fort Worden

Point Hudson is at the NE corner of Port Townsend, right at the end of Water Street. This was taken from up on the hill at Fort Worden just prior to the image above. You can walk the beach from one point to the other … just make sure to check the tide charts before you start!
