Clouds and Mt Stuart
I was on top of the South Summit of Mt Engels when I took these photos. Mt Stuart is the highest non-volcanic peak in Washington State and provides some challenging climbs in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area of the Central Cascades. I prefer not having to carry a lot of ropes and hardware … I took a climbing course long ago, but mostly to know enough to keep myself out of harm’s way.
I’ve always liked the clouds that were coming in. A storm moving through. I was glad it was a day hike.
Sitting at the Beach
I saw this couple sitting enjoying the beach breeze and view while I was trying to shoot up the last of a roll that had sat in my Hasselblad way too long. I hadn’t realized that my film shooting was another casualty of the virus.
Anyway, I thought that these two looked like they had an established routine and may have done this once or twice before. Seemed like a good way to spend an hour or so in the afternoon.
That is the Central Cascades on the other side of Puget Sound above Whidbey Island, taken from Point Hudson in Port Townsend.
Fishing Trip
Earlier in my hiking life, I carried a fishing pole fairly often. One of the best trips I had was up into the Pasayten Wilderness in north central Washington. It was fairly lightly visited at the time and the fishing was good. I feel a little bit guilty now that I have changed my view on fishing (if I do any, it’s catch and release).
But on this trip the fish were biting as were the black flies. Using a black fly, the fish were striking fast and hard. We cooked the fish over our wood fire. just delicious.
Walking Piers
Port Townsend has refurbished a number of piers to provide for walkers to enjoy the views from the waterfront along Port Townsend Bay and Puget Sound. The mountains in the lower image are the North Central Cascades … in the other direction, the Olympics are much closer.
