Loading Logs for Export

Loading Logs for Export

This is the south end of Budd Bay, the inlet of Puget Sound that comes down into downtown Olympia, Washington. There is pretty limited ship traffic down this far, but one of the few regular uses is for loading logs onto ships for export. The negative side of this is the stream of log trucks bringing loads of logs right through the middle of downtown. Between where I was standing and the log ship you can see the two tugboats that are stationed in Olympia when there is shipping traffic.

Budd Bay runs down from the southern end of Puget Sound into downtown Olympia. This photo was taken from while I was out kayaking. Budd Bay is an excellent kayak location when you want a quiet paddle with little excitement: it’s a very sheltered area and there is minimal power boat traffic (and they mostly obey the “no wake” law.

Moon Jellies

Moon Jellies

I have been looking through my library to find photos related to water. I found this one that shows moon jellyfish in Budd Bay in Olympia, Washington. I liked the reflection of my kayak paddle to give some sense of scale to the cloud of jellies. In the summer, the moon jelly population can explode … a result of stagnate water, I believe.
