This is another shot I took while waiting for the crescent moon to appear (see that photo here). This is the north end of the Olympic skyline you see from Seattle. Mt Constance on the left running through Buckhorn on the right. The colors really are pretty accurate … it was really spectacular.

This was just at sunset and the colors were really warm… a lot warmer than the air temp. This place sure has a spectacular view … I took this while I was standing waiting for the sun to set so I could try to get a photo of the crescent moon (photo of that here).
The location is at the end of Marrowstone Island just southeast of Port Townsend, WA. The water is Puget Sound.

The lowland forests of the Pacific Northwest are usually snow free most of the winter. The trails are muddy sometimes… but not as crowded as in the summer. Occasionally you will have to climb over a tree that has blown down. But the solitude and quiet are worth it.

View of the Quilcene River Canyon from the Falls View Campground nature loop, Olympic National Forest. It always amazes me where the trees will go to escape the loggers.

The view of this falls is accessed by a short nature loop in Falls View Campground in Olympic National Forest, just outside of the small town of Quilcene. The un-named creek is a tributary of the Quilcene River.
