During one of my walks around Fort Worden in Port Townsend, I noticed a number of Junco’s flitting through the branches of a tree along the trail. This little guy was nice enough to sit still long enough that I was able to get a couple shots off… I think we had the same thoughts: is it spring yet?

Walking around Fort Worden in Port Townsend in the snow was a treat. Snow is pretty much a rarity in Port Townsend … This is one of the abandoned bunkers that was used to guard the entrance to Admiralty Inlet (Puget Sound).

This is a detail of the central Bailey Range (Olympic National Park) I took from Hurricane Ridge while snowshoeing. This is a section just south of Mt Carrie.

I was up at Hurricane Ridge (Olympic National Park) with my snowshoes and camera on President’s Day Monday. It never cleared off completely, but I was able to get a view across the valley of the Elwha to the central part of the Bailey Range.

Madison Falls is along the Elwha River just at the boundary of the Olympic National Park. The walk is about a city block and is accessible (though not so much in the snow).
We had a few days of below freezing temperatures, but the ice hadn’t built up quite as much as I was expecting. Still nice, though.
