This is a pretty good example of typical Olympic Coast weather. Lots of clouds blowing in off the Pacific.
It can be disappointing to those looking for a sunny day at the beach. You can get those, of course … but this is more typical. Sun breaks can happen and then leave again. And the result of this weather is the temperate rain forests of the Bogachiel, Hoh, Queets, and Quinault rivers.
I was spending some time at Kalaloch at the coast in the Olympic National Park. The weather was pretty good, we just had a few showers. Didn’t get a good sunset photo, but got this before the clouds closed in. Stay tuned for some additional posts from the trip …
Another sunny day at the beach in the middle of winter along the Washington coast. There’s nothing quite as nice as a winter beach walk in the sun.
Dungeness Spit State Park is located on the north coast of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The views (on clear days) is spectacular and can include views of Mt Baker in the North Cascades plus the northern Olympic Mountains. The Dungeness lighthouse is a 16 mile round trip hike … I’m not sure if they sit offer it, but there used to be an option to stay the night at the lighthouse (bring your own everything).
I sorta wish I knew who these two were, but I was shooting with a long lens and had no way to contact them. I’m sure they would have used this for their Christmas card, or something.
