Someone spent a lot of time building these cairns on the beach in downtown Port Townsend. I’ve done a little of this, but nothing this extensive or elaborate. Pretty impressive.

Floating Reeds
I don’t know what kind of reeds these are (hard to tell from the photo) but they sure made an interesting pattern floating on the small pond near the ‘entrance’ to Sol Duc Park. Sol Duc Park is about 7 miles up the Sol Duc Trail, most of the way to Heart Lake and part of the very popular High Divide Loop in the Olympic National Park.
Beach and Sunset
The jet contrail added some interest to the sky, in addition to the sunset. There is also a little bit of a solar bar coming up from the sun … at least it looks like one to me. This is the waterfront at Port Townsend, WA.
The Hawaiian Chieftain
The Hawaiian Chieftain has it’s home port in Kamakahonu, but is in Port Townsend, available for day cruises. I thought it was a nice little boat, worth taking photos of. (no, I haven’t had a ride aboard)
Views from the Downtown Waterfront
In the photo above, please note the band of low cloud (fog) along the shore of Whidbey Island across Puget Sound from the Port Townsend waterfront. We had the fog earlier, but it had burned off hours ago. I was surprised there was still some left across the way. The snowy peak is Mt Baker, the northern most of the Cascade volcanoes.
Below the new walkway on the top of the new breakwater at Hudson Point Marina, a great spot to watch the ferry come and go.
