This is Hart Lake in the Upper Duckabush area of the Olympic National Park. There is more discussion of the location in a previous post (https://ajjphotoblog.com/?p=13156). This was taken from our campsite shortly after sunrise. The mist burned off shortly afterwards.
An ocean beach is a great place to see clouds. This is the Pacific Ocean from Kalaloch. A lot of the pacific beaches in Washington are part of the Olympic National Park. I liked the rain squalls visible below the clouds. You can also see several people at the waterline. This is good razor clam digging during the typical short season (spring) … some of my earliest memories are of razor clam digging.
The Nisqually – Billy Frank Jr. National Wildlife Refuge is located 10 miles or so east of Olympia, right off of I-5. It was a working dairy farm for years and still has the pair of large barns from those days. The interior area of the refuge had been diked off and used for pasture, but in the recent past the dike was breached in several places to restore acres of salt marsh for young salmon habitat. It is also a great place for bird watching and photography. The area is the estuary of the Nisqually River.

The Coho is the ferry operated by the Blackball Ferry Line, running between Port Angeles and Victoria several times a day. I usually have gone up to Victoria several times per year … fewer now that my friend in Victoria moved to Nova Scotia. This was looking at the reflection of the bow in the water while we were loading in Port Angeles. I thought it made a nice abstract pattern.
Someone spent a lot of time building these cairns on the beach in downtown Port Townsend. I’ve done a little of this, but nothing this extensive or elaborate. Pretty impressive.
