This is a shot looking southwest across the Olympic National Park from the Slab Camp Trail running out of Deer Park Campground. It was just a little hazy, but not as bad as several days later when wild fire smoke blew in from the east. I liked the ridges and intervening valleys.
This is the summit of Blue Mountain looking south towards the northeast central Olympics. I didn’t notice the interesting lens flare (this was with my phone camera) until later, or I would have sent my friend over to stand just where the flare was coming down. Oh well, next time (or not).
This is the view after departing Bainbridge Island on the way across Puget Sound to Seattle. In the distance are the Olympic Mountains. I was on my way to the region’s biggest camera store. It’s always a good day when you get to go to a camera store, but not always this nice of weather.
I like riding ferries… and that’s a good thing, since there are so many involved in getting to and from Port Townsend (where I live). I struggled with the decision about going Black and White with these … they were, of course, heavily into shades of blue. Decided to go B&W partly from having just browsed through a few Lee Friedlander books.
Trillium are a member of the lily family and are fairly common in Western Washington at all elevations, except for alpine environs. They occasionally are included in gardens, although they can be difficult to get started. My father was able to get a small patch growing in our yard years ago. I saw my first one of the spring a couple weeks ago.
