These are a couple of sky images that I took a while back. Both were taken from Olympia. The one above was pretty dramatic and I was stunned by the way no one else seemed to notice or pay attention.

This is another shot from the recent trip up to Hurricane Ridge (in Olympic National Park). It’s nice to get out and see the mountains and the trees up at the high altitude at about 1 mile (1515 m) elevation — and a special treat with a waxing moon.
I took this one a couple years back … I took a series of them, actually. I never posted this one, thinking it was too similar to the one I did post. But as I was going through my archive, I was struck by this one. I love the way it connects the two mountains.
I took this from Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, Washington with a Nikon D850 and a 300mm lens with a 2x multiplier. Exposure was f/8 at 1/25 sec and ISO 100.
These were taken within a few minutes of each other … but with such different moods. Hart Lake is in the Upper Duckabush valley in the middle of the Olympic National Park.
The Marmot Lake area of the upper Duckabush valley (21.1 miles or 34 km on the Duckabush River Trail) in the Olympic National Park provides a dramatic view of Mt Steel. The distance to access the view keeps the casual tourist away.
