The Marmot Lake area of the upper Duckabush valley (21.1 miles or 34 km on the Duckabush River Trail) in the Olympic National Park provides a dramatic view of Mt Steel. The distance to access the view keeps the casual tourist away.
This is Hart Lake in the Upper Duckabush area of the Olympic National Park. There is more discussion of the location in a previous post (https://ajjphotoblog.com/?p=13156). This was taken from our campsite shortly after sunrise. The mist burned off shortly afterwards.
One of the most dramatic campsites I have stayed at is in LaCrosse Basin at Hart Lake in Olympic National Park. There’s a nice site that sites on a small peninsula and the view to the south across the Duckabush Valley in stunning. There is a longish hike to get there (think 20 miles), which means it isn’t usually crowded. Well, that was more true in the past … everywhere is getting crowded now.
But on this trip we had great weather and the mosquitos were pretty good and we had the place to ourselves. It was nice watching the fog rise up the valley and burn off.
This ridge runs between the Duckabush and West Fork Dosewallips river valleys in the Olympic National Park. But it was the clouds that attracted my attention.
These were taken on a hike in the Olympic National Forest … and not recently. This is the high country near Lake Lucerne in the Upper Duckabush and along the O’Neil Pass Trail. This area is usually covered in snow until mid-July or so. I would really like to get back to this location, but it’s at least a long 2 day backpack … which means the pack starts weighing enough that I have second thoughts.
