Happy St David’s Day

Daffodils for St David’s Day

St. David’s Day is March 1st and St. David is the Welsh Patron Saint. It’s like St. Patrick’s Day, except the Welsh get together and sing and read poetry. It doesn’t have the same marketing appeal as drinking green beer does. But, as a person of Welsh heritage, it’s important to me. The daffodil is one of the symbols of Wales. (like the shamrock is for the Irish)

Spring Bouquet

Whoever the nice person is that keeps placing bouquets on this post along the Larry Scott Trail in Port Townsend, WA, I really appreciate the effort. I thought this one was particularly nice, but they get replaced frequently. I wonder if the deer came up and ate the tulips. They sure munch on any that are growing outside my fenced area.

Wild Growing Daffodils

There are lots of wild growing daffodils in and around Port Townsend, WA. One reason is that they are one of the flowers that the deer (and there are a LOT of deer in Port Townsend) leave them alone (apparently they are poisonous to deer). The image above was taken at Fort Worden State Park, the one below was at Kubota Garden in Seattle.

Happy Saint David’s Day

Daffodils

March 1st is Saint David’s Day … Saint David being the Welsh patron saint. Sorta like St Patrick, but without the green beer. Instead think poetry reading, singing and maybe some Welsh cakes. The ones below were baked by my sister. Thanks, Sis, for all the years of wonderful yummies!

To everyone: Happy Saint David’s Day!
