The road is in the hills southwest of Chelan, Washington. Once you’re on it, it’s a little hard to find a place to turn around. So, I just kept going. I ended up in an area that had been involved in a fire in the last year or so… and the shadows crossing the road were dramatic.
This area is just a few miles from Reno … if you drive in the right direction. Driving in the ‘wrong’ direction will put you through miles of sprawl.
This is a Regal Horned Lizard that I was lucky enough to spot along the roadway when it moved. Otherwise, it is so wonderfully camouflaged to blend in with the surrounding surface, I probably would have missed it.
No, this was not a recent photo. It would likely be all snowy at this time of year (December). Just going through photos from past trips, in warmer (less locked down) times.
I was driving a back country road in North Central Oregon (SW of the town of Fossil), when a nice panorama opened up with a wonderful cloudscape. It was spring, so the hills had a wonderful greenish blush to them.
Recently took a 5-day backpack trip up into the Olympic National Park. When we got to the Dosewallips River trailhead, there were horses and mules being loaded up. We expected they were going on a pack trip across the park. Later, we talked to them in camp our first night … they were volunteers from the Backcountry Horsemen, taking tools (chainsaws and brush cutters) and fuel in for a volunteer group from the Washington Trails Association working on the N Fork Dosewallips and Graywolf Pass trails.
