If you have nice weather in the winter, the beach is a great choice for a walk… if you can’t get to the mountains. At least that is my choice. This is Kalaloch … one of the Olympic National Park beaches.

I don’t usually convert sunset photos to Black and White … since they are often photos that are “about” the colors. This one, however, had such interesting patterns and lines that I thought the color was distracting. (and, this isn’t likely to burn, either)
The location is Kalaloch on the beach of the Olympic National Park.

The central coast of Washington is a prime location for driftwood. The rivers coming down from the Olympic Mountains carry a lot of logs that have been washed out of the forests. In addition, all the logged off areas also generate a lot of drift when the heavy rains wash logs off them. They certainly provide an interesting texture to the shoreline. Since this section (at least) is part of the National Park, the drift remains for the next big storm to move them along the beach.
