If you have nice weather in the winter, the beach is a great choice for a walk… if you can’t get to the mountains. At least that is my choice. This is Kalaloch … one of the Olympic National Park beaches.

Partial Moon (Waxing)
This is another shot from the recent trip up to Hurricane Ridge (in Olympic National Park). It’s nice to get out and see the mountains and the trees up at the high altitude at about 1 mile (1515 m) elevation — and a special treat with a waxing moon.
Sun Dogs
We went for a walk up at Hurricane Ridge (in Olympic National Park) the other day. There wasn’t enough snow to snowshoe … we’ll be in a drought this summer, if we don’t get more snow up in the mountains. But there were a couple of sun dogs … I always like them dogs. The one below also shows some of the central Olympics. Dodger Point is the closest one with the ridge running up to it.
Note that I processed these in LIghtroom and enhanced the contrast to make it easier to see the sun dogs.
Lombardy Poplar
I recently read that the Lombardy Poplar that were planted extensively in the ’60’s and before are all male clones. Huh. Who would have thought?
I found this row of them at Fort Worden in Port Townsend … but they are spread widely. There is a long row of them along the main road into downtown PT.

We are having some beautiful clear, warm (for January), winter weather. What a surprise. Our weather this time of year is either cloudy and raining, or clear and cold. It’s almost springlike… I’ll take it!
