Port Townsend Paper is the largest employer in the town, so it is usually just referred to as “the mill”. In this image you can see the northeast corner of the Olympic Mountains in the background.

Sunset Downtown Port Townsend
This is back to digital imaging and shows “rush hour” on Water Street in downtown Port Townsend. It is busy in the summertime and on weekends the rest of the year … but gets really quiet during the week.
I like it that way.
In the distance, you can see the sun setting behind the Northeast corner of the Olympic Mountains.
Olympic Mountains
The photo above is looking south up the Graywolf Valley into the heart of the Olympic National Park. Both images were taken from about the same location, near Deer Park at about 5000 feet elevation. These were taken using my Nikon F6 … Nikon’s last film camera … using Kodak Tri-X.
Mountain View Through Fall Colors
The mountain in the distance is a part of the Mt Jupiter ridge (but not the summit), which runs between the Dosewallips and Duckabush rivers in the Olympic Mountains. I was hiking up the Dosewallips when I caught this opening through the trees giving a view of the high country. The higher ridges were already showing some signs of snowfall.
The Impact of Sunlight on Apparent Air Quality
These two images weren’t taken exactly from the same spot at the same time. But it was close. The huge difference in air quality is only apparent, with the direction relative to the sun being the primary difference between the two. The top photo looks across the Strait of Juan de Fuca (note the fog bank) and into the hazy distant view of Vancouver Island. Below looks south towards the Upper Graywolf valley and the Olympic Mountains. Backlighting the haze really makes it stand out.
