This tree fell across a trail this last winter and was cut out of the right of way. The pitch shows how/where there is sap/pitch flowing in the (former) trees interior. I didn’t realize that there was any flowing except in the layer right beneath the bark. Huh.
No, this isn’t my lawn. It’s in the meadow by the Chinese Gardens in Fort Worden State Park (Port Townsend, WA). Some of the patterns are from the wind (it’s near the beach and the wind seems to always be blowing). Some are from deer laying down at night.
I’m attracted to patterns in nature. This is a good example of the randomness you find.
I was walking along the beach at Fort Worden State Park (Port Townsend, WA) when a river otter came out of the water and climbed up onto the rocks in front of me. It seemed fairly unconcerned with my taking photos, but did keep watching me. Fine with me … eye contact is good.
These were both taken at the Point Wilson LIghthouse at Fort Worden, Port Townsend, WA. The maintenance of the facility is volunteer and the salt air and exposure to all weather takes a toll on the buildings. I hope they can find a way to keep up the maintenance better than what they have now.

These are both images of grass along the beach. The top one has the grass growing almost on a vertical bank with just a few green shoots coming up through the yellowed remains. It was taken with my iPhone, while the bottom image was taken with a film camera. You can see the film grain pretty clear in it, especially in the sky. Also, the wind was blowing the grass below … but in both you can see the effects of the wind.
