The lighthouse at Point Wilson at Fort Worden State Park has been an important landmark for well over a century, marking the entrance to Puget Sound from the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Those are the North Central Cascades in the background.
Here’s a close up of the light, showing the weathering from exposure to the salt air and near constant wind.
The very thin crescent waxing moon sets just after sunset, but the thin waning moon rises before dawn. I don’t have as many shots, since I have to drive for a while before I have a view. On February 21st, I drove to where I had a view … but a thin cloud layer made the moon hard to focus on … and hard to pick out of the haze. (It’s at the top in the middle) I used binoculars to spot the moon as it rose above the Cascades and Puget Sound. Just lucky with the shipping traffic.
Point Wilson is located in Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA.
The beginning of the winter sunset was coloring the cliffs of Whidbey Island and the snowfields of Mt Baker.
The first photo is looking up the Crooked River from the overlook at Smith Rocks State Park, while the second is looking downriver from the trail running down to the footbridge crossing the river. The park is a local rock climbing Mecca and offers some great hiking. Besides the dramatic scenery.

This is a 3 image HDR (High Dynamic Range) composite with the exposures being one stop apart. I took a set of 5, but using the whole set resulted in too much ghosting. The peak on the far left horizon is Mt Baker.
