Sleeping Truck

When I visited Haines, Alaska a couple times, I stayed in a small cabin close to the ferry terminal. As I was out for an after-dinner walk, I got this image of an old truck with one of the Alaska ferries in the distance. This is one of the smaller ferries that usually runs between towns, not the larger vessels that make the run from Bellingham, Washington.

The cabin had a number of grouse living in the yard. They were quite tame and I think were looking for handouts. I gave them a copy of my itinerary, but they didn’t seem interested in that type of handout.

Lady Washington

Lady Washington

This ship is a replica of the original Lady Washington from the American Revolutionary War. This one was built in Aberdeen, Washington, United States in time for the 1989 Washington State Centennial celebrations. She was docked in Port Townsend when I was out taking photos.

I was trying out a ‘new’ used camera (a Contax G2) and needed to finish a roll of film and send it in for development for evaluating the operation of the camera. I like the camera and it seems like it is operating well. I also went over to Fort Worden State Park and took the rest of the roll, including this image (below) of the Lighthouse at Point Wilson, showing a little weathering. Time for new paint!

Industrial Waterfront

Industrial Waterfront

The weather was changing and there was a lot of mist in the air as I was taking the ferry into Seattle. In the distance, you could see Mt Rainier, but it wasn’t a strong enough picture element to create a focus point. The bridge in the distance is the West Seattle bridge crossing over the Duwamish River… on the left is Harbor Island and some of the cranes used for loading ships (freight and cruise).

Shells (no, not that kind)

Crew Shells

These shells are living a nice indoor life at the Northwest Maritime Center and Wooden Boat Foundation in downtown Port Townsend. I was impressed with the reflections off of the shells … this was taken through the glass door (they were closed as I was walking by, looking for shots to use up the end of this roll of Tri-X). There are some of these that are historic with notable wins. Port Townsend has a long history of boat building.

Fishermen’s Terminal

I was recently at the Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle having some fish and chips for dinner. (It’s fresh!!!)

After eating we walked a bit along the docks. It was night and I took a couple photos to see how the cameras would do. One is captured with my cell phone the other with my Nikon Z7ii. There’s not much difference at this magnification … and I was surprised at how well each did, considering it was dark and I was hand holding the camera/phone.
