Road and Deer

Fort Worden Roadway

Walking the roads in Fort Worden, you can often find yourself sharing the roads with deer. In the image below, the young deer (a yearling) is experiencing its first snow. It’s mother is off the road to the right … the teen-fawn seemed a little uncertain about this cold white stuff. And I imaged it was wondering if mom was going to order out dinner.

  1. Lucky, deers are not like other animals that protect their little ones, like bears, snakes, and gators. But this time of year you don’t have to worry snakes or gators.

    1. Well, we don’t have gators or poisonous snakes here in W Washington. One of the things I like so much about it. We have bears. I’ve seen them pretty often in the high county of the Olympics. Happy ‘little’ black bears feeding on the huckleberries.
